Three Thirty (330) [point blank clubbing] version One [non-stop club mix] 1998 hard house Point Road, Durban, South Africa [Martin McHale Mix] 90s

330 aka "Three Thirty" was an infamous South African nightclub, based in Point Road (in the heart of the red light dock district) in Durban, South Africa. The club opened in 1988 and quickly became popular with the 'alternative', gay, artistic community and creative / open minded clubbing crowd.
330 was the premier club in Africa to host International Superstar DJ's like (Carl Cox, Tony de Vit, Dino, Faadil, G-Force, Ian M, Madam Fiction, Malcolm Duffy, Mrs Wood, Nicky-Life, Pete Bones, Pete Wardman, Queen Maxine, Sharp Boys, Sonique, Stuart H, Tasty Tim, Tony Smith, Vicki Edwards etc)
An important open minded oasis of a venue in a closed minded society, especially as it was the beginning of the end of South Africa's apartheid period/government. At times, the club was completely WILD! International DJ Superstars like CARL COX commented "This is the wildest & best f@cking club in the world!"
330 was a famous for recreational clubbing and drugging! It was all new and fun in the late 80's - 90's! The fun set in the 00's when the venue simply became known as a place for hardcore drug use & abuse - and closed around 2008.

330 started with a BANG in the late 80s with the B-52's classic "PLANET CLAIRE" (which name checks "330 in the morning" in the lyrics)  - and most likely ended with a faceless 'hardhouse' tune 21 years later..."
Nevertheless - 330 was a special place for many years in the 80's to late 90's - and many new friends were made there :)

  8. Love this! You captured what the club was about in your synopsis. 330 was the Studio 54 of Durban, of its time. From the moment that you got your stamp at the door often by a Disco granny! You knew that you had entered a world were for those 8 hours anything could happen. I went religiously for 3 years before leaving for the UK. I think fondly now on all the "crazy" nights I had! I loved it! And I dont think that there will be anything like it again. I designed my own 330 t-shirt after the infamous raid by the police one night 330 "The Untouchables" It represented how strong the following was for the club in the 90's.

  10. The 1st track played on 3-30's main dance floor on its opening night was Grace Jones' Nightclubbing.

  12. You know, I once stopped a guy (while we were squeezing along that mystery staircase between floors) because he had this most amazing, extraordinarily complex mathematical formula on his shirt. It explained life. It really did. As did all the other formulae that covered everywhere I looked for about 20 intense minutes that night ^_^

Ah, Thirty's. So many, many fun nights... makes being 30-something worthwhile ;)

  13. Does anyone know the name of the remix of Olive's "You're not alone" that Martin McHale used to play on the main floor? I can't find it anywhere!

  22. All club regulars from around the late 90's will fucking lose their minds to this series of 16 mixes that Andy Farley did in memory of Trade in London. The 330 and Trade connection is strong, with all of the big Trade residents coming through the doors of the club at least once. It's basically 2 x 8hr mixes cut into 16 CD length sets. I'd say it's a cracking representation of the 330 sound.

  23. Growing up in 'Maritzburg, I only ever went a few times but man oh man, what a mind blowing experience.
I was into deep, funky house and not so much the hard stuff, but that hard floor was always a wild ride!

    What an amazing place.
