Another direct hit for High-Energy. Another good one this, a grand mix of House and Italo as per volume 10.

They really picked good tracks on this one. Italo/Nrg stuff from Sweet Connection, Man To Man (Housey!!) , All Systems Go (Nice Remake of Pop Music), Denise & Baby's Gang ,Mike Hazzard and the brilliant "Dragons Legend" from Koto and "Passion" form Linda Jo 'from The Flirts' (sampling the Grant Miller track "Red For Love").

 

Fab acid and house are abound, stunners from Cappella, Jack E. Mokassa, Hithouse, Risen from The Rank and the fab mix of "I'm a Man/Ye Ke Ye Ke" by Clubhouse (Silver Pozzoli in disguise!!!).

Some spooky but brilliant "New Beat stuff from OFF and Silicone Dream (why they never included "James Dean Loved Marilyn" by Silicone Dream defeats me, but hey...). Pleasant Balearic from Vanilla and Raul (The Guy who mixed the Bolero Mix Series).
 

Altogether a good album and good mix by Andrew Wood. WOM design studio do a mediocre cover which really didn't live up to the last one. No sign of the High-Energy dude or cool side names - sniff! Still a grand compilation though. Well Done.

If there was ever a point where things started to change in the 'world of dance music' this is when it happened... In 1989 the european dance music business & music trends shifted again. Sales of Italo Disco had peaked in 1988, and global dance trends were becoming less European, with more influence on black American house/rap music. 

It was shortly after the release of this album that WOM (World of Music) went bust.

Not a bad compilation but Acid and New Beat are thrown in and the funky uplifting house we had seen in the previous two volumes is discarded.

Good thing side three was just totally Italo which really was the album's saving grace in my book.

Side 1 has nice New Beat stuff from Overdrive, Beat Kick and OFF nothing brilliant though (Space Lovers version of Magic Fly was probably a hit but it has been covered so many times before)

Side Two starts of brilliantly with Out Of The Ordinary's "The Dream" which samples Martin Luther King Jr. Haunting stuff. Kicks into a nice cover of Raze's (Or was that Royal House's ?) "The Party" then goes all weird with poppy-funk stuff from Mod 222 and David Christie.

Side Three as I have said is really the best with fab Italo tracks from Fred Ventura, "The Streets" (amazing italo!), Anika, Gypsey & Queen and the Fab "Come Back And Do It" from Malcolm J Hill.


 

 

Side Four has some nice house and a Dead-Or-Alive sounding track by group SX5. Nothing fab there.

 

Andrew Wood does a good mix although I have no idea what the hell Marilyn Monroe is doing on here - although i remember this track being popular at the time.

 

Oh, and to top it all off the cover supposedly by WOM design studios is actually STOLEN from Koto's "Chinese Revenge" remix single. Booo Hiss! Some nice tracks but not a favorite High-Energy album. High Energy 13 was better!

The fall of Rome and what is to become of High-Energy?

Released late 1989. Someone picked up the High-Energy series and decided to run with it, because this was markedly better than the last one!

Some really stand-out commercial house and acid tracks on here. Black Box, Starlight, Kelly Charles, Maureen, Belga Zone, Noise Boys, Fax Yourself (Nice House version of Eddy Grant's "Walking On Sunshine"), Italian Boys, 49'ers, Kinky Go and the Techno remix of Male Stripper by Man 2 Man. Please don't ask me what Jive Bunny was doing on there - I really don't know!

Black Box's "Ride On Time" was included on the original album pressing (as uploaded here) however Discomagic later revoked the rights to use the song and repressing of the album contained a cover version by a group called "Box"! They just inked out the "Black" in "Black Box"

 

Altogether a good mix and selection with cover a-la Pink Floyd.

Not much more I have to say about this one other than it was refreshing after vol 12, and the fact that David Gresham and Patric Van Blerk had there fingers in this release.

series commentary:

I would say they were good up to Volume 13...

 

Volume 14 (released by Patrick Van Blerk) and this one, the really, very bad Volume 15 (released by Scorpio Music SA) were purely released to cash in on the success of the earlier releases.

 

I'm not a fan on these x2 final albums, and they soon vanished into the sale bins... Thankfully very few were released - as they are pretty bad. Posted here to complete the series.
