The 80s saw many gay musicians choosing to adopt disco as a genre of music that reflected their lifestyles, and that of their audiences. Most gay nightclubs played exclusively disco music as opposed to other kinds of music, and in fact, the gay disco musicians could be sub-classified under Hi-NRG.

Modern Rocketry were a band during the mid 80s and were quite unknown, even during the 1980s.
In the year 1985, they released “Homosexuality” which has often been described as the gayest disco song ever, and the single even featured the b-side “Thank God for Men”.

The band remained in oblivion for a long time except for the time when Homosexuality was played at gay nightclubs.

The record "Homosexuality" soon became a gay club dance classic

"As a teenager I remember first hearing this song on an underground bootleg nightclub mix tape from a local gay disco (Ronnyz).
The mix tape was full of cutting edge dance tunes and all the kids at school wanted copies of it.
It was the only way for us school kids to hear cutting edge dance music - especially music popular in gay clubs
(famous for having the very best dance music)

"Homosexually" was a mega taboo subject for us school kids, but was good to hear some folks were living it up
"In San Francisco" and "On Fire Island"

The track has a great 80's electro dance baseline and very cool synth rifts

"Hungry Eyes" peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts in 1988. The song was not released commercially in the UK, but it managed to peak at #82 in January 1988, having charted purely on import sales.

"I Can't Help It" is a song written and recorded by English girl group Bananarama.

It is included on their fourth studio album Wow! and was released as its third single except in the U.S., where it was the album's second single (following "I Heard a Rumour") and Australia, where it was the album's fourth single (after "I Want You Back").

The track was co-written and produced by the Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW) trio.

The song is a disco-influenced pop tune similar to many hits produced by SAW during this time period

The single peaked at number twenty in the UK singles chart, #27 on the Australian ARIA chart (where it was released in August 1988 after I Want You Back), and just missed the top-forty on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. A hit in nightclubs, "I Can't Help It" climbed to number seven on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart.

This is the final Bananarama single to feature Siobhan Fahey, who announced her departure shortly after its release.

The photos on the record sleeve were taken by famous American photographer Herb Ritts. The record sleeves for "I Can't Help It" and "Love in the First Degree" were switched with each other for the UK and North American markets.

The song's suggestive lyrics and music video further perpetuated Bananarama's sensual visual image that the group began to incorporate with their previous album True Confessions.

The "I Can't Help It" video featured muscle men dancing, colourful backdrops, and Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward in a milk bath filled with fruit and naked men.

Siobhan Fahey, heavily pregnant at the time, also appears but was only shown on camera from the shoulders up. Music video directed by Andy Morahan.

Alec R. Costandinos, (born Alexandre Kouyoumdjian in 1944 in Cairo, Egypt) is a French singer and artist of the 70's.He was also intimately involved as a writer, publisher and musician in the development of Aphrodite's Child with Vangelis and Greek-born pop singer, Demis Roussos.

On the disco front, he contributed to the debut album of Crystal Grass, which featured the club hit "Crystal World", released on the Philips label in France.

Alec was also the publisher of hits for various artists including French chanteuse Dalida.

He has also written under the pseudonym R. Rupen.

The KLF (also known as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, The Timelords and other names) were one of the seminal bands of the British acid house movement during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Beginning in 1987, Bill Drummond (alias King Boy D) and Jimmy Cauty (alias Rockman Rock) released hip hop-inspired and sample-heavy records as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, and on one occasion (the British number one hit single "Doctorin' the Tardis")

as The Timelords.

The abbreviation of the band has long been a mystery; however in a interview in Wired 2010 Bill revealed it to stand for "Kentucky Liberation Front", meant as a satire of the United States as the band saw it at the time.

The KLF released a series of international top-ten hitson their own KLF Communications record label, and became the biggest-selling singles act in the world for 1991

The duo also published a book, The Manual,

and worked on a road movie called The White Room.

"Get the Balance Right!" is the seventh single by Depeche Mode, originally released on 31 January 1983. It is the first Depeche Mode single with Alan Wilder as an official band member, and the first with a song written by both Martin Gore and Wilder ("The Great Outdoors!").

In the music video Wilder lip-syncs the first lines of the song, even though Dave Gahan should be singing it. The band were too afraid to tell the director that Gahan was the lead singer.

For some reason the director made the assumption that the singer was Wilder and they were too embarrassed to point out his mistake, the video remains this way today.

The music video is not commercially available.

Hi-Nrg Disco 80's

Megatone Records was an independent music label created in San Francisco in 1981 by Patrick Cowley and Marty Blecman. The name was derived from Cowley's "Megatron Man". The top artists involved include The Patrick Cowley Singers, Jeanie Tracy, Sylvester, and Paul Parker.

After Cowley's death in 1982, Blecman was head of the label until he died of AIDS in 1991. In 1992, John Hedges and Terrence Brown took over Megatone. In 1995, Megatone closed down & its back catalog was sold to Unidisc Music.

"Fly Too High" (1979), produced by disco producer Giorgio Moroder, was her contribution to the soundtrack of the Jodie Foster film Foxes, also featured on Ian's 1979 album Night Rains. Company B was a Latin freestyle dance-pop/Hi-NRG trio formed in 1986 by Cuban-American producer Ish "Angel" Ledesma (Foxy, Oxo)

Company B's first single "Fascinated" was released in 1986 on the independent label The Summer. The song created so much buzz in clubs around Miami that it soon made its way to local radio stations. This in turn led to its being picked up and re-released by Atlantic records. With a much wider distribution due to major label [Atlantic] backing, "Fascinated" received significant radio and club airplay in all major cities throughout the U.S. It reached number one on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart and crossed over to pop radio, peaking at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. Today, it is regarded as a freestyle dance-music classic. The trio was best known for this single, as well as the platinum wigs that were initially a part of the group's image. The single did so well that the group was signed to do a full length album. The album was released in 1987 on Atlantic Records. Although subsequent releases "Full Circle," "Perfect Lover," and "Signed in Your Book of Love" received club play and led to appearances on such programs as Showtime at the Apollo, the songs received little airplay on American radio.
